TAMESIDE POLICE SHOOTINGS – Statement by Andrew Gwynne MP

Like all decent people in Tameside and across Greater Manchester, I am deeply shocked, saddened, and frankly sickened at the cold blooded murder of PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone – two dedicated police officers merely going about their normal duties on an ordinary Tameside street on what started out to be an ordinary working day.

My heart and prayers go out to the families and colleagues of these two brave police officers at this terrible time. The sad events over in Mottram serve as a reminder that – though events like this are thankfully very rare in our society – the police put themselves on the frontline of danger day in, day out, keeping the public safe. And for that, our officers in Greater Manchester Police, and in police forces up and down the land, deserve our respect.
