Audenshaw’s MP Andrew Gwynne has condemned the news that the completion date for work to re-line the sewer pipe on Stamford Road in Audenshaw has been put back to the New Year by United Utilities.

This delay means that Stamford Road – which had been scheduled to re-open to traffic on 21st December – will remain closed for at least another three weeks.

United Utilities has announced that further pressure testing of the re-lined pipe will be required before the temporary above-ground pipes can be removed.  The road is now expected to be re-opened sometime during the week commencing 7th January 2013.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“I am appalled to learn today of this delay to the sewer pipe repair on Stamford Road in Audenshaw.

I fully appreciate that this work is essential to strengthen the sewer pipe, but I am dismayed that United Utilities have been unable to deliver this project on time.

The closure of Stamford Road has caused massive inconvenience to local residents and visitors alike and I am sure that they will share my huge disappointment and anger at the news that this misery will continue over the Christmas period.”
