Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, responding to reports that more than 50 A&Es have been issued with warnings by the Care Quality Commission, said:
“David Cameron promised to protect the NHS but he’s taking it backwards and patients are paying the price.
“He inflicted a harmful £3 billion top down re-organisation on the NHS – that nobody wanted and he promised wouldn’t happen – when it needed to focus on maintaining standards of patient care.
“More than four thousand nursing jobs have been axed under David Cameron and Care Quality Commission inspections show that one in ten hospitals are understaffed.
“Labour has repeatedly warned Ministers about the crisis in A&E departments but they have failed to act. It just proves you can’t trust David Cameron with the NHS.”
