C_71_article_1463724_image_list_image_list_item_0_imageWith the local NHS under increasing threat, Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has backed Labour’s plan to transform our health service so it’s fit for the 21st century.

And Andrew Gwynne has challenged the Tories to demonstrate their commitment to our national health service by backing Labour’s new £2.5 billion Time to Care fund which will save our NHS.

The Time to Care fund will support 20,000 more nurses, 8,000 more GPs, 5,000 more careworkers and 3,000 more midwives. Labour will also guarantee a GP appointment within 48 hours, and the same day for those who need it, and a maximum one-week wait for cancer tests.

By appointing these additional staff, our doctors and nurses will have the time they need to care properly for patients, as well as transforming services in communities and at home.

There is an urgent need for this funding in Tameside and Stockport as new figures published by NHS England show that 1,385 people waited longer than four hours at Tameside Hospital A&E between July and September. The figures also show that 243 patients were forced to wait on trolleys for over four hours in A&E because there were no available beds. Stockport saw similar figures, with 1,090 people waiting more than four hours at A&E.

Despite these shocking figures, the Tories have so far refused to back Labour’s Time to Care fund and are yet to demonstrate how they would save our NHS after it was destabilised during their costly and unnecessary reorganisation.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“Like many people in our local area I’m fed up of this government undermining and underfunding our health service. Believe me, I’ve experienced it far more often than I would have liked!

“David Cameron promised he’d protect the NHS, but instead it’s going backwards after he wasted billions on an unnecessary re-organisation, inflicted deep cuts on social care and made it harder to see a GP.

“Local people want to know that the NHS is safe for this generation and the ones that follow, and Labour’s Time to Care fund will ensure we have a modern health and care service that’s fit for the 21st century.

“The Tories haven’t just destabilised our health service; they’re holding it back from meeting the challenges of the modern world as well. Only Labour can be trusted to protect the NHS and its time the Tories came clean about whether or not they’ll back our plans to save it.”
