OLDHAM BATTERIES – Planning Permission Refused

SCR_TAM_OldhamBatteries151014_01I wanted to bring you up to speed on the Oldham Batteries housing plans.  Today, the application was heard by Tameside Council’s planning committee. Councillor Allison Gwynne spoke on behalf of the objectors, and Langtree spoke in support of their scheme.

As you may be aware, the Council had also commissioned an independent report into the traffic impact of the development on the local road network, which concluded that the impact would be “severe” on Crown Point junction and a problem for adjacent roads.

The planning committee accepted this conclusion and voted to refuse the planning permission.

I want to thank you for the help you have given, by signing the petition or writing letters of objection in to the Council. Langtree do have the right to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate, against Tameside Council’s decision. Should they do that, I will write to you again to let you know, as there will be further opportunities for the community to have their views heard.

However, I hope that instead, Langtree will now sit down with the Council to properly discuss an acceptable development for the site – with the link road included.
