GWYNNE SPEAKS OUT against Audenshaw power plant plans

Audenshaw MP Andrew Gwynne has spoken out against the planned construction of an electricity generation plant on prime land by Manchester Road.

Bosses at UK Power Reserve Ltd want to build an electricity plant with up to 14 generators. The planning documents suggest that the generators could have 40ft-high ‘exhaust stacks’ and that the site will be capable of producing up to 20MW of electricity.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“I am 100 per cent opposed to this development. This is a prime bit of land right by a canal, and it has so much more potential than this.

“It isn’t simply a case of NIMBYism – this is a reasoned objection to the misuse of a stretch of land in a very pleasant residential area.

“This would be a disaster for Audenshaw and for its future development as a suburban area. When housebuilding is so badly needed in this country, it would be a tragedy if this spot were to be covered in industrial equipment.”
