I am very, very pleased with the news regarding Tameside General Hospital, which is used by many constituents. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have released their latest inspection report into standards at Tameside General. With a few exceptions, they were very happy with the progress the hospital is making – and I feel that progress is crucial. They finished by recommending that the hospital be taken out of special measures.

I have long had concerns about Tameside Hospital. I was profoundly disappointed if not surprised when Tameside was identified by Professor Sir Bruce Keogh as one of five ‘problem hospitals’, and I welcomed the investigation that followed.

Sir Bruce’s high-level input has clearly resulted in clear change, real action and – most importantly – visible improvements at Tameside Hospital. Our borough enjoying the best NHS hospital services possible is all we deserve.

I am delighted that the CQC have acknowledged the progress being made at the hospital. It is very welcome news. I hope this development gives Tameside residents confidence that providing excellent care is a top priority for everybody who works in the local NHS.

I will, as always, continue to work closely with the hospital leadership to ensure improvements are made in the remaining areas where further work is required.
