During Cabinet Office questions today Denton and Reddish MP Andrew Gwynne urged the new Minister for the Cabinet Office, Ben Gummer MP to put words into action and support the regionalisation of our civil service to best represent all areas of the country.
Since a 2010 report argued strongly for the regionalisation of the civil service there has been a reduction in the actual size of the estate in London, however the number of posts for top civil servants based in the capital has in fact seen a real terms increase.
All regions need an even spread of the best talent the civil service has to offer in order to truly meet the needs of communities.
The Minister appeared to support the local MP’s position and endorsed basing senior civil servants across the country in an effort to offer true regionalism.
Local MP Andrew Gwynne said:
“It remains to be seen whether the Cabinet Office will roll this out effectively nationwide, however I will continue to press the government to make sure this is delivered for the North West and the country at large”.
