Denton and Reddish MP joins forces with Tesco and Fare Share Food Cloud Campaign

Andrew Gwynne MP joined staff at Tesco Express in Haughton Green to hear about the work they’re doing with Fare Share UK to collect food for redistribution in the Trussell Trust food banks.
The scheme will initially be piloted and tested in partnership with Tesco and will lead to edible surplus food at store level being redistributed directly to frontline organisations.

Between April and September 2016, Trussell Trust foodbanks across the UK distributed 519,342 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis compared to 506,369 during the same period last year. 188,584 of these went to children.

Andrew Gwynne said:

“It’s a sad indictment of public policy that this kind of help is needed, but I know the big difference food banks can make to those who rely on them.
“As well as the Trussell Trust foodbanks, we have some excellent independent ones across the constituency like Re:Dish and the St Mary’s Foodbank.

“This Christmas season I’d ask please across Denton and Reddish to donate where you are able.”
