This week Andrew Gwynne, local MP for Denton and Reddish, joined groups from around the world in honouring the memory of those who died during the Holocaust.
On this day in January each year the world marks the day that the concentration and death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history was liberated. Schools, faith groups and community organisations will hold events across the whole country to remember all the victims of the Holocaust, as well as subsequent genocides since the Second World War.
This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day theme is, How Can Life Go On – a poignant example relevant even today.
Andrew Gwynne said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day is an incredibly important opportunity to remember and honour the victims of one of the worst atrocities in mankind’s history, as well as the survivors, who to this day do such amazing work in our schools and communities to make sure we never forget.
“I encourage everyone to take a moment out of your day to remember those who suffered and to join others in our community in the fight against intolerance and prejudice.”
“Let us remember to never lose faith and hope for a better world.”
