Denton and Reddish MP, Andrew Gwynne, yesterday visited Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s husband who has been on hunger strike outside the Iranian Embassy in London for 13 days.

Richard Ratcliffe has been on hunger strike outside the Embassy in support of his wife Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who has been imprisoned on false charges in Iran since 2016.

Ratcliffe is calling for his wife to be released immediately and to be visited by the British Embassy for a health check.

If no release is granted in the next few weeks, then Ratcliffe is asking for a visa so that he can go to Iran.

The couple’s young daughter Gabriella, who recently turned 5, remains in Iran with Nazanin’s parents.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“Meeting with Richard was such a humbling experience – he is such a remarkable and decent man putting himself through great hardship for his family.

“I am proud to show solidarity with him and hope that justice prevails and that this family is reunited.”
