Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has presented a Citizen’s Award to Christine Ingham of Denton West End Community Library in recognition of her work during the lockdown.
Christine is a volunteer at the library on Windsor Road who worked alone, to ensure social distancing, during the lockdown to put together activity packs for local children.
Putting the packs together was a very time-consuming packs but proved immensely popular with children, whilst providing much needed support to parents who are struggling to entertain their children. Some people came from as far away as Ashton to pick up one of the packs, which were left outside for collection.
The award was presented outside Denton West End Community Library by Gwynne and Tameside Council Leader Brenda Warrington, who is also Councillor for Denton West.
Andrew Gwynne said:
“I was delighted to present this award to Christine in recognition of all her hard work over lockdown.
“We all remember well how difficult a time the full lockdown was; through putting together these activity packs, Christine made this easier for many families in the area by giving stuff for kids to do.
“This award is very well-deserved and I’m also very grateful for all the work that Christine and the other volunteers have been doing to keep the library open and running.”
