Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, is commemorating the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe with the UK Parliament archives ahead of Victory in Europe Day on 8 May.

UK Parliament have put together a UK Parliament and World War II Hub. The Hub looks at the impact World War II had upon Parliament.

It features stories and information about:

  • Bomb damage to Parliament
  • Key parliamentarians during the war
  • Memorials to members and staff from the House of Commons and the House of Lords
  • Wartime legislation

The Hub is accompanied by historical and educational resource packs for primary and secondary school pupils. Children are able to explore the World War II history of the UK Parliament, remembering and commemorating those who sadly lost their lives.

The resource packs can be accessed from home.

Andrew Gwynne said:

“On 8 May, Europe will come together to commemorate its 75th anniversary of Victory.

“The impact of World War II upon the UK Parliament can now be explored on the amazingly informative UK Parliament and World War II Hub.

“School closures can’t stop our children from learning about their history – and thanks to UK Parliament, World War II history lessons can still take place at home.”

The resources packs can be accessed for primary school pupils here and for secondary school pupils here.
