Andrew Gywnne, MP for Denton and Reddish, is supporting the Right on Time campaign of Versus Arthritis which is calling on the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to take urgent action to improve access to joint replacements.

Versus Arthritis have held discussions with people suffering from arthritis who have said that having a date for surgery provides them with some much-needed hope and reassurance. The NHS currently guarantee that patients will receive joint replacement surgery within 18 weeks of referral. Versus Arthritis are appealing to the Government to keep this guarantee.

Versus Arthritis are petitioning for:

  • The Government to keep the NHS guarantee of treatment within 18 weeks
  • An NHS Action Plan to improve access to joint replacements and reduce waiting times
  • Increased accountability for the NHS to deliver joint replacements
  • The regular publication of waiting times for joint replacement surgery

Andrew Gwynne said:

“I am proud to support the Right on Time campaign of Versus Arthritis.

“Those struggling in pain deserve certainty when it comes to their treatment.

“This is why I am calling on the Government to keep the 18-week maximum wait time for joint replacement surgery on the NHS.”
