Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, is urging local football clubs to get ‘pitch perfect’ by taking advantage of the COVID-19 financial support they can apply for from the Football Foundation.

The FA, the Premier League and Sport England have jointly launched a £9.5 million Pitch Preparation Fund. It has been designed to support grassroots football clubs with the challenges posed to them by COVID-19. Funds are available to ensure that local football clubs will be ‘pitch perfect’ by the time restrictions are lifted.

Funds are available for all football clubs and voluntary organisations that maintain their own natural or 3G artificial grass pitches and have at least 12 months’ security of tenure. Applications are open now. They will close at 9pm on Monday 25 May.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“COVID-19 has brought football to a standstill and I am, like so many in our constituency, patiently waiting for play to resume.

“Even after football has been deemed safe, our local football clubs will be facing new, COVID-19-related challenges that the Pitch Preparation Fund will be able to support.

“I would like to thank the Football Foundation for this £9.5 million fund, and I would urge any local football club or voluntary organisation in Denton and Reddish to apply, ensuring that that they are ‘pitch perfect’ by the time restrictions are lifted.”

The Pitch Preparation Fund can be applied for on the Football Foundation website.
