PaypalPeople in Tameside and Stockport who rely on PayPoint will now be able to top up their gas and electricity metersat even more locations this year. After installing PayPoint terminals in another 4 outlets in the constituency in recent months, the total in Denton and Reddish is now 32 (compared with 17 post offices).

It is expected that around three-quarters of these be open on Christmas Day, while all 32 will be open on the other bank holidays. The PayPoint service is now available in more than 25,600 shops throughout the UK.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“I was thrilled to make a visit to the convenience store at in Denton Road, Audenshaw, learning about the benefits of PayPoint. It enables consumers to pay essential household bills conveniently at their local shops. It is very convenient as it includes gas and electricity meter prepayments, council tax, rents, BBC TV licences and water bills, all on your own door step.”

The Paypal Our network is used by consumers, free of charge, over 12 million times a week and provides a vital lifeline in many of the most deprived communities in the UK, particularly where those with prepayment energy meters rely on PayPoint retailers being open for long hours every day – including Sundays – when they can top up their meters.

A small proportion of pensioners and benefits claimants are now able to access their entitlements in cash at many PayPoint outlets, through a service known as Simple Payment. More than 1.1 million payments have been made by Simple Payment since the scheme started early this year.
