photo-61This week, the planning application for houses to be built on a part of Reddish Vale Country Park was heard at a packed-out meeting of the Reddish & Heatons Area Committee.

I want to update you on where the application is now up to:

The Labour Councillors present recommended that plans to build houses on Reddish Vale be refused. This resolution was moved by Reddish South Councillor Walter Brett and was seconded by fellow Reddish South Councillor Tom Grundy. The Area Committee accepted this recommendation.

During his speech, Walter Brett said:

“national planning policy says houses should not be built on green belt unless there are extraordinary reasons for doing so. We don’t believe there are.”

Tom Grundy added:

“If we agreed to this, what would stop other developers coming forward with even more plans to build on the Vale? We do not want to set a precedent.”

A big thanks also to the Friends of Reddish Vale Country Park and the Tame Valley Defence Group who have successfully campaigned to push these proposals into the public domain.

The application will now also go to the Stockport Central Area Committee as the proposed Blackberry Fields site is situated in the Brinnington and Central Ward.

However the final say will ultimately rest with Stockport Council’s main planning committee. I will write to let you have more details about this meeting as and when it is known.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Yours sincerely
