Minister Matthew Hancock commissioned a follow-up report from the Further Education Commissioner, the result of which was the imposition of Administered College status.
Mr Hancock’s letter is available here.
Andrew Gwynne MP said:
“I was deeply concerned by the Ofsted report identifying Stockport College as ‘inadequate’, and now we learn that the Government has placed the College into administered college status.
“The Further Education Commissioner has clearly identified significant weaknesses in the leadership, and I am anxious that considerable changes must be made swiftly so that the standards of the college can rapidly improve.
“We only get one shot at educating young people. Everybody deserves a fair crack at the whip, and it is absolutely vital that we give them a go. We cannot allow Stockport College to fail those young people that deserve the very best standards of further education on their doorstep.
“It is our duty and our responsibility to ensure the organisations that exist to serve local young people are fit for purpose.”
